Hen Party
Hen Party Sauna in Galway
Bring your hens to a wood-fired sauna and cold plunge — book up to 10 seats together in one session, from €14 per person.
Why a Sauna Hen
The kind of hen people actually remember
Most hens you go to follow the same script. A pub crawl in matching sashes, a 9am prosecco breakfast, and a hotel spa day that costs €150 a head and smells like chlorine. They’re fine. They’re also forgettable.
A sauna hen at Mad Yolk Farm is the opposite of that. You book your seats together in a wood-fired session — up to ten of you in the room — and let the heat do the work the prosecco was supposed to do. Everyone relaxes, the conversations get real, and nobody’s checking their phone.
It’s warm, social, grounded, and a little wild. Wood smoke, cold plunge, the open sky over a regenerative farm in east Galway. The kind of afternoon people text each other about for weeks afterwards.

The Setting
A wood-fired sauna on a working farm, 25 minutes from Galway
Mad Yolk Farm sits in Knockroe, just outside Craughwell village in east Galway. It’s about a 25-minute drive from the centre of Galway city, 15 minutes from Athenry, and 15 minutes from Loughrea. There’s a regular bus from Galway to Craughwell and taxis are straightforward — most hen groups split a couple of cars between Galway city accommodation and the sauna.
The sauna itself is wood-fired, set apart from the main farm with its own cold plunge, outdoor shower, and a quiet changing room. No flashing lights, no soundtrack, no spa-day pan-pipes. Just wood smoke and fields.
Make a day of it
Pair the sauna with lunch, dinner, or a walk
Most groups treat the sauna as the centrepiece of a longer afternoon. A few rough ideas that work well:
- Lunch first in Galway city — a casual seafood spot in the Latin Quarter or West End, then drive out for an afternoon sauna slot.
- Coffee and cake in Athenry — there are a couple of friendly cafés in the medieval centre, ten minutes from the farm.
- Dinner in Loughrea or Craughwell villageafter the sauna — when everyone’s pink, glowing, and hungry.
- Stay over in Galway city and tack on a Sunday brunch the next morning.
We’re happy to suggest a few places when you book — just tell us roughly what kind of day the bride’s after.
