FAQs
Sauna in Galway — frequently asked questions
Where is the sauna in Galway?
The Mad Yolk Farm sauna is at our farm in Knockroe, Craughwell, Co. Galway (Eircode H91 YDT2), about 25 minutes from Galway city. It's a wood-fired sauna set in the countryside with free on-site parking.
How hot is the sauna?
Our wood-fired sauna runs at around 90°C, which is the traditional Finnish range. The heat is dry and steady, ideal for proper sweat rounds between cold plunges.
How long is a sauna session?
Public sauna sessions are 50 minutes long, giving you time for multiple rounds of heat and cold plunge.
Is the sauna wood-fired?
Yes. Our sauna is fully wood-fired, giving a softer heat and the gentle crackle of a real fire. It's heated for every session by hand on the farm.
Do you have a cold plunge?
Yes. There's a cold plunge pool right beside the sauna so you can go straight from heat to cold and back again. Warm showers and changing facilities are also on site.
What should I bring to the sauna?
Bring a swimsuit, two towels (one to sit on, one to dry off), flip-flops and a water bottle. We have changing facilities, a cold shower and free parking on site.
How long is a sauna session at Mad Yolk Farm?
Public sauna sessions run 50 minutes, with cold plunge and warm showers included so you can do several rounds of heat and cold.
What's the difference between a wood-fired sauna and an electric sauna?
A wood-fired sauna is heated by a real log-burning stove, giving softer, more humid löyly heat and the smell of woodsmoke — the traditional Finnish way. Electric saunas are powered by an element, which is convenient but produces a drier, harsher heat without the same atmosphere.
